Who’s Who in Aesthetics: Esthetician, Aesthetics Nurse, and Aesthetics Nurse Practitioner Explained
With so many people playing different roles in the aesthetics space, it can be confusing to patrons and even aspiring practitioners how these roles differ and work collaboratively to help clients reach their skincare and cosmetic goals.
We’re here to break down the barriers and explain the difference between these roles, helping you to better understand who you’re likely to be seeing for different services at Naturally Rae and why.
Esthetician:
An esthetician is a skincare professional who specializes in various treatments for the skin. Their primary focus is on improving and maintaining the appearance, health, and condition of the skin. Estheticians usually obtain their training from specialized skincare schools or programs. They are not medical professionals and do not have the ability to diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medications.
Here are some common services performed by estheticians:
Facials: Estheticians perform facials, which involve cleansing, exfoliating, extracting impurities, and applying masks and moisturizers tailored to the client's skin type.
Exfoliation Treatments: Estheticians perform chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and other exfoliation techniques to remove dead skin cells and improve skin texture.
Skin Treatments: Estheticians provide treatments for acne, hyperpigmentation, rosacea, and other skin concerns using specialized products and techniques.
Estheticians play a crucial role in helping clients achieve healthy, radiant skin through personalized skincare treatments and education. At Naturally Rae, our esthetician, Isabella, is ready to help you meet your skin goals!
Aesthetic Nurse Practitioners:
Aesthetic Nurse Practitioners are advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) with specialized training in aesthetic treatments and procedures. They hold a master's or doctoral degree and have typically completed advanced training in aesthetic medicine. Aesthetic NPs have a broader scope of practice compared to estheticians. They can assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients' health conditions in addition to providing aesthetic services.
Here are some advanced treatments that you will typically find an aesthetic nurse practitioner providing:
Injectables: Aesthetic NPs can perform injectable treatments like Botox, Jeuveau, fillers, trim peptides like semaglutide, and vitamin injections
Skin Rejuvenation Procedures: Aesthetic NPs will often provide skin rejuvenation procedures, including laser treatments on the face and body, from specialty laser facials to non-invasive laser vein treatments and everything in between.
Hair Restoration: Laser-powered hair restoration are cutting-edge treatments that Aesthetic NPs can provide.
Aesthetic nurse practitioners combine their clinical expertise with a focus on aesthetic enhancements to help clients achieve their desired cosmetic outcomes safely and effectively. Our Founder and NP, Rachel, is passionate about helping our patients enhance their natural beauty.
Aesthetic Nurses:
Aesthetic Nurses are registered nurses (RNs) who specialize in cosmetic treatments and skincare. They may pursue additional training or certification in aesthetic procedures beyond their nursing degree.
In addition to assisting in the injectable, skin rejuvenation, and hair restoration treatments listed above, at med spas, aesthetic nurses can often be found providing:
IV Therapy: Aesthetic nurses can provide IV therapies to help clients replenish their body with essential vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.
Body Contouring: Body contouring treatments like skin tightening and muscle toning are often conducted by an aesthetic nurse.
Aesthetics nurses play a vital role in the field of aesthetic medicine by delivering safe and effective treatments, supporting patients throughout their aesthetic journey, and promoting holistic health and well-being. Brittany, our RN, is well-versed in patient care and a champion of wellness.
